Our Tour of Lighthouse Trail as a Family: Spring Break, March 2022

As a family, we decided to tackle the Lighthouse Trail at Palo Duro Canyon! We left the pups at home, took the hour drive, and brought lots of water! Chloe, James, and I greatly enjoyed this trail. The trail is about 6 miles and we went later in the day/evening. Bringing water was KEY! As hot as it was outside the canyon, the canyon floor was about 10 degrees hotter. Leaving the pups home was a mercy, please don’t make your pets take this kind of trail on the floor of the canyon!
The trail was pretty crowded from the get-go, but we still had plenty of time and freedom to take lots of pictures along the way. The whole journey took about 3 hours for us. We took a break up at the top of the “lighthouse.” While that particular place is not part of trail, it was a relatively easy climb to get to the top of one of the lighthouses.
We also enjoyed the gift shop and most definitely got t-shirts! We loved this hike and can’t wait to do it again! Next time, we will go EARLY in the morning or a little later in the evening. We also would consider bringing even MORE water and a few more snacks. Pack sunscreen for sure!!!!
